Xenophobia What is xenophobia? Xenophobia is an irrational fear of people because of what we think they are, and can often be based on stereotypes. This can lead to discrimination against minorities. Why does xenophobia exist? People are often afraid of others because of their religion, sexuality and/or ethnical background, for example islamophobia, homophobia and racism. This fear is often based on a lack of information. How can we overcome xenophbia? Be open-minded and willing to get information by directly talking to the person/group of people that we’re afraid of. Don’t just leave it and go away. Always remember that everyone’s an individual, so we should be celebrating our differences! FYEG stands for the Federation of Young European Greens, and they are working in association with the Turkish Young Greens. Together they hope to raise awarness of this worldwide problem –xenophobia- in an attempt to prevent it.
